- Account Information: When you create an account we collect your email address. If you sign in with Apple, we receive the identifiers Apple provides (which may include your name and a relay email address).
- Photos & Camera Data: When you capture or select a photo for insect identification, the image is processed to provide results. Images may be sent to our AI service for analysis.
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Location Data: With your permission, we collect your device's approximate or precise location to enrich identification results with regional data and to provide relevant weather information.
- Weather Data: We use your location to retrieve local weather conditions from a third-party weather service, which can help contextualize insect sightings.
- Device & Usage Data: We may collect basic analytics such as device model, operating system version, and general usage patterns to improve the App.
2.3 Information from Third-Party Services
- Authentication Providers: If you use Apple Sign In, we receive authentication tokens and basic profile information as permitted by Apple.
3. How We Use Your Information
- Insect Identification: Photos you submit are sent to our AI-powered identification service (powered by Anthropic's Claude API) to analyze and identify insects.
- Weather Context: Location data is used to fetch weather information via the OpenWeather API to provide environmental context for your sightings.
- Account Management: Email and authentication data are used to create and maintain your account, sync your data, and provide customer support.
- App Improvement: Aggregated, anonymized usage data helps us improve the App's features and performance.
- Communication: We may use your email to send important service updates or respond to support requests.

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (TLS/SSL), secure authentication via Supabase, and restricted access controls. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
