InsectAI uses advanced artificial intelligence (Anthropic Claude) to analyze photos you take or upload. The AI examines visual features such as body shape, color, wing structure, and size to determine the most likely species.
Yes. Identification requires an active internet connection because photos are analyzed by our cloud-based AI service. Saved sightings can be viewed offline once they have been synced.
Camera access lets you take photos directly within the app. Photo library access allows you to select existing images for identification. You can manage these permissions at any time in your device Settings.
Location data helps us provide region-specific identification accuracy and local weather information that contextualizes your insect sightings. Location access is optional and can be disabled in Settings.
We take your privacy seriously. All data is transmitted over encrypted connections, authentication is handled by Supabase with industry-standard security, and we never sell your personal information. See our Privacy Policy for details.
You can delete your account from the app's Settings screen. Once deleted, all your personal data will be removed from our systems within 30 days. You can also email us to request account deletion.
AI identification is highly accurate but not infallible. For best results, ensure good lighting, a clear focus on the insect, and try to capture the insect from multiple angles. If you believe a result is incorrect, please let us know so we can improve.
InsectAI requires iOS 17.0 or later and is optimized for iPhone.
